During PRP, or platelet rich plasma, treatments, a fraction of blood (10-20 cc) is drawn from you (in the same way blood samples are taken for lab tests) into a PRP tube. This is a relatively small amount compared to blood donation, which can remove 500cc. We use the Selphyl® system, in which the entire separation and extraction process is in a completely closed system. It is a safe and rapid process that provides concentrated PRP.

Platelets are very small cells in our blood that are involved in the clotting and healing process.  When used in PRP treatment, it is either injected or applied topically onto the skin during the microneedling procedure. The Microneedling in our office is performed in a safe and precise manner with the sterile disposable tip (not a roller). Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic cream is applied. The treatment is well tolerated. In some cases, you may feel some prickling or stinging sensation particularly in areas of bony prominence.

After treatment, your skin will be pink or red, and it will feel tight, dry, swollen and sensitive to the touch.  It may also have pinpoint bleeding in some cases.  The sensitivity and redness will diminish significantly within 24 hours. The treatment triggers the healing cascade. The result is healthier, plumper, and younger-looking skin. Generally, three treatments are advised; however, more may be necessary for some individuals.
